RUGBY HOLIDAY SHOPPING GUIDE (FOR THE GIRLS):
Straight Jackets

Style

As much as we hate
to admit it, it’s jacket season. And if you’re in a cold climate like we New Yorkers, this is the time of year when 80 percent of the people you meet are going to see only your top layer — so you gotta make it count. Stand out in the crowd with a unique outerwear piece. Click through to see our top three picks of the season, for gifting or wearing yourself.

MEN’S STYLE:
Vest Dressed

Style

Old, fat dudes aren't really known for setting fashion trends, but that's exactly what a Edward VII of England did in the early 1900s. Really. Legend has it the chubby British ruler couldn’t squeeze into his vest while dressing for some aristocratic shindig — so he just up and left the bottom button undone. It should have caused a scandal; instead, the look was immediately copied for its air of negligent nonchalance. Leaving the last button undone has remained one of those esoteric sartorial rules ever since, and it’s one that very few guys actually know. (Same rule goes for cardigans.) So next time you're rocking a vest, whether layered over an oxford-cloth buttondown or a rocker T-shirt, leave the bottom button undone (or take it a step further and leave the bottom two undone, like Andre does with our herringbone version)। It's one time where following a rule, rather than breaking it, is the road less taken.
